Box Score PORTALES, N.M. – Four different Javelinas had at least six kills as the Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team opened Lone Star Conference play sweeping Eastern New Mexico on Friday night.
The Javelinas evened their record at 5-5 as they defeated the Zias 25-21, 25-15, 25-21. Eastern falls to 3-7 overall and 1-1 in the LSC.
Kelsey Washington led the Javelinas with eight kills, while
Dedra Brown and
Stephanie Johns each had seven.
Kayla McGlathery added six.
Sarah Fountain continued her strong play as the setter finishing with 28 assists.
Defensively, Brown and Johns led a strong showing at the net as the Hoggies had eight total blocks. Brown finished with three total blocks, while Johns had 2.5.
Brittany Gutierrez and Washington each had double-digit digs. Gutierrez led the way with 15, while Washington dug up 10 balls.
Courtney Lawson led ENMU with double-double. She had 14 kills and 11 digs.
Kingsville faces a stern test on Saturday facing West Texas at 2 p.m. The Lady Buffs are ranked 15th in the nation. The Javelinas will face Southwestern Oklahoma State later on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
