Javelinas Sweep Home Opener

Box Score KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team opened the home portion of its 2013 schedule on Tuesday with a x-x (25-16, 25-23, 25-16) win at Kingsville Hampton Inn Court.

The victory was the third straight for the Javelinas, who move to 3-2 on the season. Our Lady of the Lake is now 3-4 on the year.

In the opening set, the Javelinas led throughout despite the sides hitting an identical .206 from the floor. The difference was the Javelinas serving. Kingsville finished with five services aces and no errors. The Saints had no aces and four service errors. Kelsey Washington and Mariah Carlin each had a pair of aces.

Setter Sarah Fountain shared the team lead four kills in the first set with Kalani Giddens. Fountain added nine assists, while Giselle Carreon had six digs.

The second game was much closer as the visiting Saints jumped out an early lead and maintained a 5-point advantage as late in the set as 17-12 after a pair of Gloriana Villareal kills. Kingsville responded by running off 7-straight points to take 19-17 lead. Giddens had a pair of aces in the spurt.

OLLU battled back to tie the set at 20, but could not hold off the attacking trio of Kelsey Washington, Stephanie Johns and Giddens combined for four late kills.

In the final set, the Javelinas again kept control throughout. Kingsville out-hit the visitors .333 to .070 in the final set. They finished the match with a .243 hitting percentage while limiting OLLU to .111.
