Box Score KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team closed out the home portion of the 2013 season falling 3-0 (25-17, 27-25, 25-23) to Texas Woman's on Saturday at Kingsville Hampton Inn Court.
With the loss, Kingsville falls to 14-17 on the year and 5-9 in the Lone Star Conference. The Javelinas, who clinched a spot in the LSC Tournament earlier this season, close out their regular season next weekend with matches at Midwestern State and Cameron.
After dropping the opening set 25-17, the teams went back-and-forth in set two. The Javelinas jumped out to a 14-6 lead early after a handful of miscues by the Pioneers (19-8, 10-4). They maintained a 15-10 lead after a
Kayla McGlathery kill.
Kingsville moved to within two points of taking the second set at 23-17 after a
Kelsey Washington kill and a
Stephanie Johns ace.
TWU responded by going on a 10-2 run to take a 2-0 lead. After a McGlathery kill provided set point for Kingsville at 24-19, the Pioneers took the lead with six straight points including a pair of kills by Marcela Alves.
Kelsey Washington's kill knotted the score at 25, but TWU took the set with two straight points.
Like the second set, the Javelinas led much of the way. The hosts had a 17-11 lead following kills by Washington and
Kalani Giddens.
The Hoggies maintained their 6-point lead at 21-15, but TWU again made a charge to claim the set. The Pioneers scored 10 of the matches final 12 points to win set three 25-23. Jaqueline Santos and Josie Santos each had two kills and the Javelinas had four attack errors.
Dedra Brown, who played her final home match as a Javelina, and Washington led Kingsville with 11 kills. Washington added 11 digs for a double-double.
Mariah Carlin added 11 digs.
Sarah Fountain had 29 assists.
Alves was the lone Pioneer with double-digit kills as TWU out-hit Kingsville .250 to .195. Morgan Wilson had a match-high 16 digs.
