Javelinas Set To Open Home Schedule With Emerald Beach Javelina Classic

KINGSVILLE, Texas – After four road games to start the 2013-14 season, the Texas A&M-Kingsville men's basketball team will make its home debut this weekend as it hosts the Emerald Beach Hotel Javelina Classic on Kingsville Hampton Inn Court.
The Javelinas are 2-2 and will be joined in the tournament by Texas-Permian Basin, Texas A&M International (2-3) and Cameron. Kingsville will face UTPB at 5 p.m. on Friday and International at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Cameron (2-1) will play in the first game each day at 2:30 facing International on Friday and UTPB Saturday.
Kingsville has won its last two games after dropping games to No. 19 St. Mary's and No. 1 Metro State in the first two games of the season. In its most recent contest, Irvin Hollinger scored with eight seconds left as the Javelinas won 82-80 over St. Edward's. Their first win came on Saturday against Colorado State-Pueblo in the Al Kaly Classic by a 90-79 score. Kingsville had five players in double figures on Tuesday and four Saturday as they have been exhibiting a balanced attack.
Senior Rashad Basey is fifth in the Lone Star Conference with 18.5 points a game. He has scored at least 11 points in all four games and had 27 against St. Mary's and 20 versus the Thunderwolves. Basey is fourth in the league in shooting at 52.3%, second with 2.5 steals, and third in blocked shots with 1.8. JUCO transfer Ronald Scott is sixth with 4.5 assists. Newcomer Jordan Jahr is second on the team with 12 points and Adonis Bailey is scoring 10.8.
Permian Basin is led by Dwayne Soders who is averaging a double-double with 22.8 points and 15.3 rebounds. Friday's meeting will be the second all-time between the Falcons and Javelinas. International is led by Jordan Clark's 10.4 points a game. It will be the first of two meetings for the South Texas rivals on Saturday as Kingsville will visit Laredo later this season.
