Kelsey Washington surpassed the 1,000-kill barrier Saturday afternoon with a dominating performance with 20 kills and 20 digs as the Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team defeated Cameron 3-1 (25-18, 25-19, 21-25, 25-22) on Saturday in the regular-season finale.
With the win, Kingsville completes the regular season with a 15-18 mark overall and 6-10 Lone Star Conference record. The Javelinas snapped a five-game skid with the win. Cameron finishes the season 7-23 and 0-16.
After struggling offensively in its last outing, Kingsville hit .174 or better in the three sets it won. Washington, who has 1,001 career-kills in her career becoming the seventh player to reach the plateau, finished with a .226 attack percentage with just eight errors to go with the 20 kills in 53 attempts. Dedra Brown added 12 kills and
Stephanie Johns had eight kills and six blocks.
Sarah Fountain had 32 assists,
Mariah Carlin added 14 digs.
Kat Evans led Cameron with 12 kills.
The Javelinas enter next week's LSC Tournament at West Texas A&M as the seventh seed. They will face No. 2 seed Texas Woman's at 2:30 on Thursday. The two sides split during the regular season with each winning on the other team's home floor.
