Washington Leads Javelinas Past Cameron

Box Score KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team won its third straight Lone Star Conference match Friday with a 3-1 (25-23, 27-29, 25-21, 25-21) victory over Cameron in Kleberg Bank Homecoming match on Kingsville Hampton Inn Court.
With the win, the Javelinas move to 11-9 on the year and to 4-3 in the Lone Star Conference. The Aggies fall to 5-12 overall and are 0-7 in the LSC.
The Javelinas will look to make it four Lone Star wins in a row on Saturday when they face Midwestern State at 1 p.m.
Kelsey Washington powered the Javelinas to the win 16 kills on .419 hitting. The junior add 12 digs, an ace and two blocks. Lone senior Dedra Brown finished with 13 kills and Stephanie Johns added 11. The Hoggies hit .195 as a team despite struggling in dropping set two with a .017 percentage. They hit over .250 in the three sets they won including .300 and .344 in the final two sets. Giselle Carreon and Sarah Fountain combined for 49 kills.
Defensively, Johns led the Javelinas with seven blocks tying her season best as the team posted a season-high 12. Kalani Giddens added five block assists. Mariah Carlin matched Washington's team-high 12 digs, while Brittany Gutierrez dug 10.
Kelle Carver led all players with 18 kills, while Kat Evans added 14. Erin Hardy finished with a match-best 20 digs leading four Aggies in double figures. Kayla Hebert had 38 assists.
