KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – On “Fear the Beard” Night, Texas A&M-Kingsville senior starting pitcher Jaden Dillon (Bridge City/Bridge City HS) tossed a 1-hit 11-0 shutout over visiting Lone Star Conference rival Eastern New Mexico on Friday.
The game was delayed an hour due to inclement weather, but the delay did not affect Dillon who struck out six of the first seven batters he faced. His no-hit bid was broken up in the fourth inning on a two-out double by Mitch Wolfe, but he promptly struck out the next batter and retired the final 10 batters. He improved to 8-0 on the season and finished the game with no walks and 11 strikeouts.
The Javelinas (25-12, 13-8) scored five times in the second inning and then added four more in the fifth inning and two in the sixth to get the 10-run rule victory. Third baseman James Black (Spring/Klein Collins HS) went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and five RBI’s. Mario Siller (San Antonio/MacArthur HS) had two hits and an RBI and Julian Duran (San Antonio/Madison HS) had a two-run, pinch-hit single.
The Greyhounds (12-27, 2-18) entered the game as the second best hitting team in the conference, but were unable to get anything going. Aaron Anderson took the loss in his first start of the season.
With the win the Javelinas are now in a three-way tie for first place in the conference with Angelo State and West Texas A&M. The Javelinas and Greyhounds will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. All military personnel and veterans will be admitted free of charge.
