Javelinas Close Out Sweep with Hit Parade

STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team completed its first Lone Star Conference four-game sweep since the 2008 season on Sunday when they knocked off Tarleton State, 16-8 at the Cecil Ballow Complex.

The Javelinas (19-7, 8-4) pounded out a season high 19 hits and scored in seven of nine innings. The team never trailed in the game and never trailed in the series against the Texans (12-14, 5-7). The Hogs moved to within one game of LSC-leading West Texas A&M in the season standings.

The Javelinas had six players with at least two hits in the game. James Wallace (Corpus Christi/Tuloso-Midway HS) went 3-for-5 with four runs, four RBI’s, a double and a triple. James Black (Spring/Klein Collins HS) finished off an outstanding series by going 4-for-6 with a run scored, a double and four RBI’s. Jake Mendiola (Kingsville/Richland Northeast HS) and Mario Siller (San Antonio/MacArthur HS) each had three hits in the game. Cameron Dullnig (San Antonio/Clark HS) added two hits, two walks, two runs, three RBI’s and a double.

Zach Pettiford (San Diego, CA/Patrick Henry HS) improved to 3-0 on the season after pitching 4.1 innings. Freshman Cole Foster (Katy/Taylor HS) pitched 2.2 scoreless innings of relief.

The Texans finished the game with 11 hits. Noah Ringenberger went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Garrett Hardey went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI’s and a home run. Landon Thompson was tagged with the loss after pitching 2.0 innings of relief and allowing four runs.

The Javelinas are back in action on Tuesday on the road at St. Edward’s at 2 p.m. The team is currently 7-2 on its extended road trip.
