Baseball Takes Opener at Tarleton State

STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team got another strong pitching outing from ace Jaden Dillon (Bridge City/Bridge City HS) and the offense exploded for nine runs in the first five innings en route to a 10-3 win at the Cecil Ballow Complex on Friday night.

The Javelinas (16-7, 5-4) scored three times in the top of the first inning thanks to an error and four stolen bases. In the third inning, the team took advantage of two errors and scored three runs, including a two-run homer by Cameron Dullnig (San Antonio/Clark HS). They added three more runs in the third inning thanks to a pair of run-scoring doubles by Jake Mendiola (Kingsville/Richland Northeast HS) and Adam Aspaas (San Marcos, CA/Mission Hills HS).

The Javelinas added another run in the seventh inning on James Wallace’s (Corpus Christi/Tuloso-Midway HS) solo homer. They finished the game with nine hits led by Trent Wagner’s (Victoria/Memorial HS) two hits, three runs, two stolen bases and an RBI. Dillon went 7.0 innings allowing seven hits and two earned runs while striking out four to improve to 5-0 on the season.

The Texans (12-11, 5-4) out-hit the Javs 11-9, but left 10 runners on base. They finished with four extra-base hits in the game including a home run by Ryan Small, an RBI triple by Evan Robinson and an RBI double from Noah Ringenberger. Kenneth Stockton took the loss after allowing seven hits and five earned runs in 4.0 innings.

The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. and the final game of the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
