Jaguars Rally Past Hogs

VICTORIA, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team took a 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth inning at UH-Victoria on Wednesday, but could not hold off the Jaguars in a 5-4 loss.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Jeremy Urbano pinch-hit to lead off the inning and drew a walk. David Baker followed with a double to put runners on second and third with no outs. A ground out by Jerrod Dugas scored the tying run and then Jonathon Escobar (Edinburg/Edinburg North HS) struck out the next batter to set the stage for Brandon Bohanon who drove in the winning run with an infield single.

The Javelinas (19-17) had eight hits and walked six times, but did not have a single batter with more than one out. They were unable to drive in the runs when needed as they left 12 runners on base. Andrew Longoria (Corpus Christi/Rockport-Fulton HS) had a solid outing in his first start of the season. He allowed four hits, two runs and one walk while striking out two in 5.0 innings of work.

The Jaguars (24-21) matched the Hoggies with eight hits. Cory Hulsey smacked a solo home run and was one of two players with two hits in the game. Pete Ontiveros improved to 4-2 on the season after tossing a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

The Javelinas are back in action this weekend at Incarnate Word for a Lone Star Conference three-game series on Friday and Saturday.
