The Javelinas (13-11) scored twice in the first and third innings to take a 4-0 lead. They maintained the lead until the Rattlers (22-6) scored four times in the fourth inning to tie the game.
The score remained tied until the seventh inning when the Rattlers exploded for five runs. Three of the runs they scored were unearned and it was Weston Barros’ two-run single that capped the rally.
Grant Harrelson picked up the win for the Rattlers by pitching 4.1 shutout innings in relief. He allowed one hit and one walk while striking out five.
The Javelinas had nine hits in the game. Ryan Cook (Houston/Mayde Creek HS) had a big game going 2-for-5 with two runs, an RBI, a double and three stolen bases. Catcher Jake Mendiola (Kingsville/Richland Northeast HS) went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs batted in. Brian Frazier (Kingwood/Kingwood HS) went 2-for-3 at the plate. Adam Aspaas (San Marcos, CA/Mission Hills HS) pitched well in relief tossing 3.0 shutout inning allowing just two hits and a walk.
The Rattlers had 10 hits as every batter in the lineup had at least one hit. Barros drove in three runs while Tyler Migl and Ryan Morrow each scored twice.
The Javelinas are back in action on Friday at 6 p.m. at home against Lone Star Conference rival West Texas A&M.
