
PORTALES, NEW MEXICO – The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team split a pair of game at Lone Star Conference rival Eastern New Mexico on Saturday. They won the first game, 6-1 and fell 11-1 in the second game. (

The Javelinas (13-10, 10-8) received an outstanding pitching performance from senior Tim Jones (Lake Jackson/Brazosport HS) in the opener. He earned his third win of the year after scattering seven hits in a 7-inning complete game. He did not walk a batter and struck out five. He boasts a 2.49 earned run average for the season.
The Hoggies trailed 1-0 until the top of the sixth inning when they scored six runs. They tied the game on a single by Adrian Williams (Victoria/Memorial HS). With two outs and the bases loaded Jake Mendiola (Kingsville/Richland Northeast HS) came through with a two-run single. Two batters later, Brian Frazier (Kingwood/Kingwood HS) cracked a pinch-hit, three-run double to break the game open.
Anthony Smith was handed the loss for the Greyhounds (5-16, 3-12). He allowed seven hits and six runs in 5.2 innings.
The second game was all Greyhounds as they used a 7-run second inning as the spring board to a 10-run rule victory. Mitch Wolfe led the team with a pair of home runs. He hit a grand slam in the second inning and a two-run shot in the sixth inning. They were efficient on offense needing only 11 hits to score their 11 runs.
The Javelinas struggled in all aspects of the game. They left 10 runners on base and committed six errors. A.J. Hecker (Orange/Bridge City HS) and Jerry Rodriguez (Canovanas, P.R./North Lake) each had two hits in the game and finished with four on the afternoon.
Aaron Anderson picked up the win for the Greyhounds allowing eight hits, one runs and three walks while striking out four in 6.0 innings.
The Javelinas are back in action on Tuesday at St. Mary’s for a game at 6 p.m.
