
PORTALES, NEW MEXICO – The Eastern New Mexico baseball team exploded for a 6-run and 5-run inning en route to defeating Texas A&M-Kingsville, 12-3, in Lone Star Conference action on Friday afternoon at Greyhound Field. (

The Greyhounds (4-15, 2-11) and Javelinas (12-9, 9-7) were scoreless through the first three innings, but ENMU scored six times in the bottom of the fourth inning. They put the game away with five more runs in the sixth inning.
The Greyhounds pounded out 18 hits in the game. Mitch Wolfe went 4-for-5 with three runs, three doubles and an RBI while Dillon Downs was 4-for-5 with a double, three RBI’s and a run. Three other players had two hits in the game and Luis Quinones, Daniel Patching and Blake Thomsen each drove in two runs.
Corey Cole pitched 6.0 shutout innings before the Javelinas finally scored in the seventh. He allowed four hits, one earned run and three walks while striking out three en route to earning his first win of the season.
The Javelinas managed six hits in the game. Chris Ballou (Houston/Houston Christian HS) had two hits and scored a run. David de Leon (Corpus Christi/Carroll HS) was tagged with the loss after pitching 3.0 innings.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
