
COMMERCE, TEXAS – Three-point shooting proved to be the difference in the game between Texas A&M-Commerce and visiting Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday in women’s basketball action. The Lions went 8-for-14 from deep while the Javelinas were only 4-for-23 in a 79-63 Lion victory. (

The Lions (1-10) held a 34-31 lead at halftime, but then they hit 6-of-9 three-point attempts in the second half to take the win. Danielle Dixon hit the two biggest three-pointers of the game when she connected on back-to-back possessions to turn a 2-point lead into an 8-point lead with 11:47 left in the game. The Javelinas (2-8) were never able to get any closer than eight points the rest of the game.
The Javelinas shot 40.6 percent from the field and made 7-of-13 attempts from the foul line. Freshman Chelsea Solis (San Antonio/Wagner HS) led the team with 15 points, six rebounds and four assists. Senior Rochelle Ikeni (Fresno, CA/Roosevelt HS) picked up a double-double off the bench with 12 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks. Victoria Gonzalez (Hidalgo/Hidalgo HS) added 11 points, six boards and two blocks.
The Hoggies out rebounded the Lions by a 43-32 margin including 18 rebounds on the offensive end. The Javs committed 22 turnovers while the Lions had 15.
The Lions shot 53.4 percent from the field and were 9-for-22 at the foul line. Mattilyn McIntyre had an outstanding game with 22 points, 12 assists and eight steals while making 4-of-5 from three-point range. Apreia Booker and Dixon each had 12 points while Bianca Stevenson had nine points and 11 rebounds.
The Javelinas are back in action on Wednesday night at Eastern New Mexico in the Lone Star Conference South Division opener.
