Aggies Sweep Javelinas

  LAWTON, OKLAHOMA – Cameron University swept a pair of baseball games from Texas A&M-Kingsville on Friday afternoon at McCord Field, 12-8 and 13-3. (Game 1, Game 2)

In the first game, the Aggies (22-12, 21-9) scored four runs in the first inning, three in the second and four more in the fourth as they controlled the game from start to finish. The Aggies pounded out 16 hits in the game as every player in the lineup had at least one hit. Tyler Berg led the team with a home run and five runs batted in. Tom Dicker added a home run and two RBI’s.

The Javelina (20-20, 16-16) had 13 hits in the game and scored in four different innings, but they left 10 runners on base. Clifton Thomas (San Diego, CA/El Cajon Valley HS) led the team by going 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI’s and a stolen base. Brandon Rohr (Anaheim, CA/Orange Lutheran HS), A.J. Hecker (Orange/Bridge City HS) and Rich Arroyo (Missouri City/Fort Bend Elkins HS) each had two hits while Arroyo also drove in two runs.

Logan Grimes picked up the win for the Aggies to improve to 6-1 while Colby Schindler (Hallettsville/Hallettsville HS) was handed the loss.

In the second game, the Aggies jumped out to a 9-0 lead and won by a 10-run rule. Jerry A’Hearn pitched a complete game to earn the win for Cameron.

The Aggies had 16 hits in the game as Alex Lyons went 4-for-4 with three runs, seven RBI’s and two home runs. Berg went 2-for-3 with three RBI’s and a home run. Shane Azzopardi and Blake Watson each had three hits in the game.

The Javelinas had just eight hits in the game. Luis Diaz (Santa Ana, CA/Century HS) went 2-for-3 while Hecker hit a home run.

The Javelinas are back in action on Tuesday at St. Edward’s at 2 o’clock.
