Errors Lead to Hoggie Loss

  SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – Despite out hitting St. Mary’s, 17-10 the Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team was dealt a 15-10 defeat on Tuesday night at V.J. Keefe Memorial Stadium thanks to a season high eight errors.

The Rattlers (22-10) jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first two innings before the Javelinas (19-17) bounced back with six unanswered runs. The score was 9-7 in favor of the Rattlers heading into the bottom of the eighth when they scored six runs to put the game away.

The Javelinas had five players with at least two hits in the game. Travis Earles (Houston/Cy-Falls HS) led the team with three hits, scored a run and stole a base. Trent Wagner (Victoria/Memorial HS) came off the bench to go 2-for-2 with two RBI’s and a stolen base. Adrian Williams (Victoria/Memorial HS) had two hits, scored two runs and had a double.

Clint Brown (Red Oak/Red Oak HS) was tagged with the loss after pitching 1.1 innings. Pitching in middle relief Trey Mattox (Yorktown/St. Paul HS), Taylor Taska (Kingwood/Kingwood HS) and Clay Stephens (Houston/Bellaire HS) combined to pitch 5.2 innings allowing just two unearned runs.

The Rattlers were led by James Hipp who went 2-for-6 with three RBI’s, three runs and a home run. Each player in the starting lineup scored at least one run in the game. Roman Gomez picked up the win after tossing 5.2 innings allowing eight hits, four earned runs and three walks while striking out two.

The Javelinas travel to Lone Star Conference rival Cameron University on Thursday and Friday for a four-game series.
