Hogs and Texans Split Doubleheader

  STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS– Texas A&M-Kingsville and Tarleton State University split a pair of Lone Star Conference baseball games on Friday. The Javelinas won the first game, 10-7 and lost the second game, 15-5.  (Game 1, Game 2)

In the first game, the Javelinas (18-15, 14-12) hit three home runs and never trailed in the game. Senior Clifton Thomas (San Diego, CA/El Cajon Valley HS) led off the game with a home run. In the third inning, A.J. Hecker (Orange/Bridge City HS) hit a three-run homer and Adrian Williams (Victoria/Memorial HS) followed up with another homer to make it back-to-back.

The Javs added an unearned run in the fourth inning and then scored three more times in the fifth. Thomas had a two-run triple in the fifth and then scored on Brandon Rohr’s (Anaheim, CA/Orange Lutheran HS) single.

The Javelinas finished the game with 17 hits. Thomas went 3-for-4 with three RBI’s, four runs and a stolen base. Cody Stigall (Seguin/Seguin HS) went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI’s and a run. Rohr, Williams, Jared Moore (Tyler/Chapel Hill HS) and Trent Wagner (Victoria/Memorial HS) each had two hits apiece.

On the pitching side of things, David de Leon (Corpus Christi/Calallen HS) went 5.0 innings allowing nine hits, one earned run and three walks while striking out three to improve to 6-1 on the season. Clay Stephens (Houston/Bellaire HS) pitched 2.0 perfect innings to pick up his first career save.

In the second game, the Texans (14-17, 11-15) scored the first nine runs of the game and cruised to the victory after getting 22 hits. Eight of the nine players in the lineup had at least two hits. Dishmey went 4-for-4 with five runs, three RBI’s, a home run and a stolen base. Casazza went 4-for-5 with four RBI’s and a double. They scored in every inning except the fifth.

Rohr had a big game for the Javelinas going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI’s a double and home run. Thomas had two doubles and scored two runs as the Hoggies had 11 hits in the game.

The two teams will face off again Saturday with a doubleheader at 1 o’clock.
