Rams Buck Javelinas

  SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – The Angelo State University men’s basketball team evened up the season series with visiting Texas A&M-Kingsville on Wednesday night by knocking off the Javelinas, 81-58.  (box score)

The Rams (14-8, 5-2) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.  They shot 51.9 percent from the field and held the Javelinas (12-11, 2-6) to 19.4 percent shooting in the first half.  In the second half the two teams played nearly even, but the Rams’ 19-point halftime lead was too much to overcome for the Hoggies.

The Javelinas finished the game shooting 29.0 percent from the field, made 1-of-18 from three-point range and were 21-for-31 at the foul line.  Naquawn Lee (San Antonio/East Central HS) led the team in scoring with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting.  Ryan Wallace (Spring/Tomball HS) added 12 points while Royce Gaye (Houston/Klein HS) had 11 points.  Marcus Ford (Colorado Springs, CO/Mesa Ridge HS) led the team with eight rebounds.

The Rams shot 46.3 percent from the field, made 5-of-20 three-point attempts and were 14-of-26 from the foul line.  LaMarshall Corbett led the way with 20 points.  Stavon Williams and Johnny Barnes each posted double-doubles with 14 points and 10 rebounds and 11 points and 13 rebounds, respectively.  Chris Ellis came off the bench to add 10 points and six rebounds.  Trey Mays grabbed eight boards and dished out five assists.  They out rebounded the Hoggies 54-40 in the game.

The Javelinas are back in action next Wednesday night at home against #6 Midwestern State.
