KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball season came to an end on Saturday afternoon as visiting #20 Angelo State University won a pair of games, 8-2 and 9-2 in Lone Star Conference play at Nolan Ryan Field. (Game 1, Game 2)
In the first game, the Javelinas (20-35, 15-29) held a 1-0 lead heading into the sixth inning thanks to a Thomas Miller (Las Vegas, NV/Sierra Vista HS) home run in the third inning and 5.0 shutout innings pitched from Daniel Rogers (Redwood City, CA/Woodside HS).
In the sixth inning, the Rams (40-16, 31-13) scored four times thanks to an RBI single from Chris Adamson and a two-run double by Jason Morriss.
The Javs added a run in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a solo home run by Philip Johnson (Malibu, CA/Malibu HS).
The Rams put the game out of reach in the seventh when they scored four more runs. They finished the game with eight runs on just seven hits. Joe Key pitched a complete game allowing six hits, two runs and three walks while striking out seven to improve to 5-2 on the season.
In the second game, the Rams jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings and never looked back. Trey Carter went 3-for-4 with a double, home run and four RBI’s to lead the team. Adamson went 4-for-4 at the plate and Morriss drove in two more runs. Sam Janca pitched 8.0 innings allowing five hits, two runs and five walks while striking out four to earn the win.
The lone bright spot for the Javelinas was junior Clifton Thomas (San Diego, CA/El Cajon Valley HS) hitting his 10th home run of the season. He became the first player in Javelina history to have at least 10 home runs and 20 stolen bases in a season. Thomas and Travis Earles (Houston/Cy-Falls HS) each had two hits for the team. Chris Brown (Humble/Nimitz HS) was handed the loss after pitching 6.1 innings.
