Strickland Shuts Down High Powered Aggies

Sam Strickland beat #12 Cameron on Friday  KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – Texas A&M-Kingsville senior pitcher Sam Strickland (Houston/Spring Woods HS) improved to 5-2 on the season after a 7-3 victory over visiting Lone Star Conference rival #12 Cameron University on Friday at Nolan Ryan Field.  (box score)

Strickland limited the high powered Aggie (32-11, 23-10) offense to just four hits and three runs over seven innings while striking out five batters.  The Aggies came into the game averaging over nine runs per game and hitting .344 as a team.

The Javelinas (18-24, 14-19) jumped out to an early lead scoring a run in the second and third innings.  The Aggies came back to tie the score in the fifth inning, but the Hoggies responded with two runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth.

Junior Clifton Thomas (San Diego, CA/El Cajon Valley HS) went 3-for-4 from the leadoff spot with two runs scored and an RBI.  A.J. Hecker (Orange/Bridge City HS) and Philip Johnson (Malibu, CA/Malibu HS) each had two hits.  James Brown (Corpus Christi/King HS) came off the bench to go 1-for-1 with two runs and an RBI.  The team pounded out 12 hits in the game with only one extra base hit.

Josh Barnett led the Aggie offense with a double and a home run and scored two runs.  Starting pitcher Brad Bichel was handed his first loss of the season after allowing 12 hits and seven runs in 6.0 innings to fall to 9-1.
