Javelinas Pound Division I Houston Baptist 13-2

KINGSVILLE – Robert Cox’s career-high four-hit game led the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelina offense as they defeated the Division I Houston Baptist Huskies, 13-2.
Cox had two singles, a double and a triple and was only a home run away from hitting for the cycle.
Along with Cox, four other Javelinas had multi-hit games as they out-hit the Huskies 17-9.
Texas A&M-Kingsville is now 15-14 on the season.
"We’ve been trying to get into big innings lately," head coach Russell Stockton said. "We capitalized on having runners on base and put up some crooked numbers."
Mario Gonzalez (Premont) picked up the win for Hogs, improving to 3-2 on the season. In three innings he allowed no runs, struck out three and walked none.
Four Javelina pitchers combined to allow only one earned run in the game.
"The pitching staff did well," Stockton said. "They went out there and did a good job."
The Huskies got on the board first with a single run in the second inning.
The Hogs immediately responded with three runs in their half of the second inning. Back-to-back doubles by Will Mettlach (McAllen) and Wiley Crowson tied the game at 1-1. Will Alexander later scored Crowson on a groundout to short and Erik Gomez singled up the middle to bring in Cox for the inning’s third run.
The Huskies loaded the bases in the top of the third, but Gonzalez got Leo Delgado to fly out to center field and preserve the Javelina lead.
In the bottom of the third, A&M-Kingsville put up another three runs, all with two outs. Joe Hamon and Thomas Miller were able to score on an error and Will Alexander singled to right field to bring in Crowson and put the Javelinas up 6-1.
The Hogs had their third three-run inning of the game in the sixth. Miller led off the inning with an infield single and came home on a Hamon single up the middle to make it 7-1. Then with two outs, Cox tripled to center field to score Hamon before coming home himself on an error that made the score 9-1.
Again the Huskies loaded the bases in the top of the seventh. This time it was Josh Livingston (Corpus Christi Moody) that forced Delgado to fly out to right field and keep the eight-run lead.
The Huskies did add a run in the eighth inning on a fielder’s choice that made it 9-2.
Like they did the first time the Huskies scored, the Hogs came right back in the bottom half of the inning, this time putting up four runs, all of them coming with two outs. Gil Perez (Odem) doubled down the right field line to plate Cox and James Brown (Corpus Christi King) hit an infield single to score Gomez for the inning’s first two runs. The other two runs came on an Adrian Williams (Victoria Memorial) double to right center that scored Perez and Brown to make it 13-2.
The Javelinas will begin a four-game Lone Star Conference series Thursday against the West Texas A&M Buffaloes at Nolan Ryan Field beginning at 5 p.m.
