Portales, NM -- The Javelinas struggled on the mound and at the plate in dropping a pair at Eastern New Mexico 9-5 and 6-1.

   Taylor Everett went a combined 3-for-6 in the twinbill to lead the Javelina offense.

   The losses dropped the Hogs to 13-14 overall and 9-10 in Lone Star Conference play.

   Eastern scored four in the second of the opener to take control.

   The Hogs trailed 8-1 after four innings, but rallied for three in the top of the sixth and added another run in the seventh.

   But the Javelinas couldn't push across another run over the final two innings.

   In the nightcap each team had just five hits, but the Greyhounds scored six runs in the sixth, thanks in part to three Javelina errors.

   The Hogs got a single run in the seventh on a run-scoring single by Will Alexander, but that's where the rally ended.

   The Javelinas and Greyhounds play the series finale Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
