Javelinas Drop Game One At Eastern New Mexico

Portales, N.M. -- Owen Weaver, the reigning LSC Hitter of the Week, picked up four of the Javelinas' 11 hits, but it wasn't enough as Texas A&M-Kingsville dropped a 7-4 decision at Eastern New Mexico Friday night.

The Javelina offense left 13 runners on base and the pitching staff walked in a pair of runs.  A&M-Kingsville is now 13-12 overall and 9-8 in league play.

A&M-Kingsville trailed 3-0 before scoring a pair of runs in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to one.

James Brown (Corpus Christi King) singled to start the inning.  Taylor Everett and Joe Hamon walked with two outs and Weaver delivered a two-run single.

But the Javelinas gave it all back in the bottom of the inning as the Greyhounds scored four runs on just one hit.  The Javelinas walked in a pair of runs and allowed four walks in the inning.

Reliever Bobby Gonsoulin, who walked in both runs, settled down the rest of the way, shutting out the Greyhounds over the final three innings on just two hits.

The Javelinas left the bases loaded in the sixth, but scored a run in the seventh on a single by Weaver and a run-scoring double by Thomas Miller.

The Javelinas scored another single run in the eighth on a run-scoring single by Chase Myrick, one of his three hits on the night.

A&M-Kingsville brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but left two runners on base to end the game.

The two teams will play a twinbill Saturday beginning at 4:00 p.m. central time.
