Another Heartbreaking Loss For Javelinas At ASU

San Angelo -- The Javelinas bounced back from a 14-point deficit, lost a 10-point lead and had a chance to send the game into overtime in the final seconds before falling at Angelo State 67-65.

Felicia Soza (Beeville) led five Javelinas players in double figures with 16 points.  Lana Toki had 12 points, LaKeisha Jones and Kayla Naylor (Calallen) each had 11 and Dyana Bullinger added 10 for A&M-Kingsville.

The loss dropped the Javelinas to 5-15 overall and 1-6 in the Lone Star Conference South Division.  Angelo State improved to 18-4 overall and 5-2 in league play.

A&M-Kingsville trailed 27-13 with eight and a half minutes left in the first half, but went on a 14-0 run over the next five minutes to tie the game at 27.  Soza and Reagan Sutton each scored five points apiece during that stretch.

Jones then scored on a layup with 18 seconds left to give the Javelinas a 34-33 lead at halftime.

A&M-Kingsville open the second half on a roll, running out to a 40-33 lead in the first two and a half minutes thanks to back to back jumpers by Soza.

After the Rambelles tied the score at 40, the Javelinas put together another impressive run, outscoring ASU 14-4 over the next five minutes to grab a 54-44 advantage midway through the half.

But ASU chipped away at the Javelina advantage and grabbed their first lead of the second half on back to back 3-pointers by Kandra Lakey and Camille Perkins, capping a 12-1 run to give the Rambelles a 63-60 advantage.

With two seconds left Soza was fouled attempting a 3-point shot, but after making the first free throw, she missed the second, intentionally missed the third and the Javelinas got the ball out of bounds with .9 seconds left.  Bullinger's last second shot missed and the Javelinas dropped their fourth game this season by five points or less.

A&M-Kingsville travels to Eastern New Mexico Saturday night.
