KINGSVILLE – Dyana Bullingers’s 18 points led four Javelina players in double figures as Texas A&M-Kingsville went out as winners in its final home game, thumping the Angelo State Rambelles, 75-63. Click here for stats.
“There’s three games you don’t lose. You don’t lose your home opener, your conference home opener and you never lose senior night,” head coach Scott Hyland said.
In their last home game as Javelinas, Lana Toki produced 12 points and three rebounds while Ali Scott had six points and three rebounds for A&M-Kingsville.
“I think Lana and Ali really stepped up and made some big plays for us, especially early,” Hyland said. “Lana hit some big shots in the second half.”
Kayla Naylor (Calallen) had 16 points and four steals while Felicia Soza (Beeville) added 15 points and had nine rebounds to lead the Javelinas.
The Javelinas went 6-for-11 from beyond the 3-point arc with Bullinger connecting on three of the shots.
The Javelinas opened up a 13-point lead, 55-42, with just over 12 minutes left in the game on a Naylor three-point shot on an inbounds pass from Bullinger with only two seconds left on the shot clock.
A&M-Kingsville kept the pressure the rest of the game, extending the lead to 16 on a Bullinger free throw with just over 40 seconds remaining in the game.
The Javelinas played lock-down defense on the Rambelles in the second half, allowing ASU to shoot just 29 percent from the floor. The Javelinas held the Rambelles without a 3-point field goal in the second half, going 0-for-6 after hitting 5-of-9 in the first half.
The first half was close until the Javelinas went on a 13-0 run to go up 24-12 with 8:16 remaining in the first half on a Toki layup.
The Rambelles responded with a 19-10 run capped by a Perkins three-point shot with a minute left in the first half that cut the Javelina lead to three, 34-31.
The Javelinas will be on the road for their final game of the season against the Abilene Christian Wildcats Saturday at 2 p.m.
