 KINGSVILLE – After going down by as many as 15 points, the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas rallied back but could not take the lead and fell to the Texas Woman’s Pioneers, 67-54.
KINGSVILLE – After going down by as many as 15 points, the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas rallied back but could not take the lead and fell to the Texas Woman’s Pioneers, 67-54.
            The loss leaves the Javelinas at 6-19 and 2-10 in Lone Star Conference South Division games.
            The Pioneers improved to 11-14 and 6-6 in the LSC South.
            Lana Toki led three Javelinas in double figures with 13 points. Sandra Maldonado and Ali Scott each had 11 for A&M-Kingsville.
            Scott and Dyana Bullinger each had three steals for the Javelinas.
            LaKeisha Jones was the leading rebounder for Kingsville with six.
            Renee Renz put up a double-double for the Pioneers, leading the team in scoring with 23 and in rebounding with 10.
            Keshia Bolds had 18 points while Savannah Thompson added in 12 for Texas Woman’s.
            The Javelinas were up, 16-12, with 12 minutes left to play in the first half but the Pioneers closed the half out on a 23-8 run to go into the intermission up 35-24. Renz scored 10 of the Pionerrs points in the run.
            A&M-Kingsville came out strong in the second half and were able to cut the lead to one, 44-43, with 10 minutes left to play.
            The Javelinas could not keep the momentum and saw the Pioneers respond with two quick layups to put the lead back up to five.
            Texas Woman’s did not allow the Javelinas to get any closer than three points throughout the last 10 minutes of the game.
            The Javelinas will be back at Kleberg Bank Court Wednesday to host the Angelo State Rambelles at 6 p.m.
