The win improved A&M-Kingsville’s record to 6-17 overall and 2-8 in Lone Star Conference South Division action.

The Mustangs fell to 9-14 and 3-7 in the LSC South.

The Javelinas shot 54 percent from the floor including a blistering 73 percent in the second half. A&M-Kingsville hit 11 of 21 3-point shots. The 86 points was a season-high and the most points the Javelinas had scored in a game since an 88-64 win over Texas A&M-International in 2005. It was the most points scored by the Javelinas in a Lone Star Conference game since the 2001 season.

Jones posted her third double-double of the season with 24 points, 10 rebound and hit 11 of 14 shots from the floor.

Soza hit 5-of-9 3-point shots and finished with 23 points, just one point off of her career high.

Sophomore point guard Kayla Naylor (Calallen) had a season-high 16 points, making 6-of -9 shots from the floor with three assists and three steals.

Stacey Staten had 24 points to lead the Mustangs while Brandy Moore added in 14.

The Mustangs went up 26-19 with just over seven minutes left in the first half in what would be the biggest lead the Mustangs would have in the game.

After the game was tied at 32 with three and a half minutes left in the first half, the Hogs scored 10 straight points capped by a Reagan Sutton jumper with just over a minute left in the half as the Javelinas enjoyed a 42-36 lead at the intermission.

The Mustangs cut the lead to four, 42-38, on the opening bucket of the second half, but the Javelinas responded by scoring nine consecutive points on a jumper by Naylor, a 3-point basket by Dyana Bullinger and consecutive baskets by Jones to give A&M-Kingsville a 53-40 lead.

Midwestern State would get no closer than 11 points the rest of the way.

A&M-Kingsville will be on the road for their next game Wednesday against the West Texas A&M Lady Buffs at 6 p.m.
