Denton -- Lana Toki bounced back from a scoreless game in her last outing to score 19 points, but it wasn't enough as the Javelinas lost at Texas Woman's University 75-64. Click here for stats.
The loss dropped A&M-Kingsville to 5-12 overall and 1-3 in the Lone Star Conference South Division while the Pioneers improved to 6-11 and 1-3.
Kayla Naylor (Calallen), Dyane Bullinger and Ali Scott all scored 11 points as the Javelina bench outscored the Pioneer bench 34-9.
But TWU shot 51 percent from the floor, made 5 of 9 3-point shots and 20 of 28 free throws, outscoring the Javelinas 20-9 from the charity stripe. Â
"They hit some big shots," said Javelina head coach Scott Hyland. "They usually aren't a good 3- point shooting team. A couple of those came late in the shot clock and they knocked them down. They also got to the free throw line a lot. We played really well. We just seem to bring out the best in everybody."
The Javelinas never led in the game and trailed 35-31 at the half after shooting 52 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes.
Toki came out and hit a jumper to cut the lead to two, 35-33. Naylor knocked down a 3-point shot with 17:26 left in the game to keep the lead to four, 40-36, but TWU then took control.
The Pioneers outscored the Javelinas 9-3 to increase their lead to 10, 51-41, and A&M-Kingsville got no closer than seven points the rest of the way.
The Javelinas will host nationally ranked West Texas A&M Wednesday night.
