Javelinas Swept By Angelo State

  Kingsville – The #22 ranked Angelo State Rams swept the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas 12-9 and 9-1 Saturday afternoon at Nolan Ryan Field.

   The losses dropped the Hogs to 24-26 overall and 7-9 in Lone Star Conference South Division play while the Rams improved to 36-15 and 12-4.

   Taylor Everett went 5-for-8 with three runs scored and two runs batted in during the doubleheader. He batted .563 during the four-game weekend series.

   The Javelinas actually out-hit the Rams 16-14 in the opener and were the beneficiary of four errors, but couldn’t notch the victory.

   The Javelinas scored two in the first, three in the third and one in the fifth to take a 6-3 advantage in to the top of the sixth.

   Javier Molina and Everett each drove in runs in the first, Everett drove in another run in the third followed by run scoring singles by Trey Karlen and Will Alexander. Todd Mass picked up an RBI in the fifth with a safety squeeze bunt.

   The Javelina pitchers hit four batters, walked two and gave up a wild pitch which led to seven Ram runs in the top of the sixth and A&M-Kingsville would never regain the lead.

   Justin Ariki picked up his first four-hit game of the season, going 4-for-5 with an RBI.

   In game two, the Rams scored two in the first and second, three in the fifth and two in the seventh.

   The lone Javelina run came on a run scoring single by Alexander.

   The Javelinas finish the regular season with a four-game weekend series at Eastern New Mexico beginning Friday afternoon.
