Kingsville – Senior Raul Trevino (Corpus Christi Incarnate Word Academy) became just the second pitcher in Texas A&M-Kingsville history to win 20 career games as he pitched a complete game in the 5-3 game one victory over West Texas A&M.
The Hogs blasted 14 hits in a 12-3 game two win in the Lone Star Conference opener for both teams.
The Hogs are now 19-15 overall and 2-0 in conference play while West Texas A&M falls to 9-22 and 0-2.
Diego Nucete led the Javelina offense with four hits in seven at bats, four runs scored and four RBI while Clay Bockholt (Tuloso-Midway) and Joe Hamon each extended their hitting streak to nine games.
Trevino improved his record to 6-1 on the season and 20-12 in his career by allowing 11 hits, 10 of them singles, while striking out seven, walked none and threw 138 pitches for his fourth complete game of the season.
Trevino is second in career victories at A&M-Kingsville, trailing only Ricky Sandate’s 24 career wins.
Bockholt, Javier Molina, Nucete and Taylor Everett each had two hits to pace the Javelina attack.
The Buffaloes scored a run in the second to take a 1-0 lead, but the Hogs tied the game in the bottom of the third on a run scoring infield single by Molina.
West Texas A&M retook the lead with a run in the top of the fifth, but the Hogs responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, all coming after two outs with nobody on base.
Nucete drove in the game-tying run with a single to center, Everett singled to give the Hogs their first lead of the game and Hamon singled to center to give the Javelinas a 4-2 lead.
The Buffaloes scored an unearned run in the top of the seventh to cut the lead to 4-3, but the Hogs got an unearned insurance run in the bottom half of the inning.
Trevino closed the game in style, retiring the final seven hitters he faced, recording three strikeouts.
In the nightcap, the Javelinas again rallied from an early deficit and got a complete game effort from Brandon Hevner.
Hevner went all seven innings, allowing two earned runs and six hits while striking out seven and walking three to improve his record to 4-2.
Chase Myrick, Nucete, Hamon, Trey Karlen and Justin Ariki each had two hits for the Hogs.
West Texas A&M scored single runs in the second and third to grab a 2-0 lead, the Hogs responded with six runs in the bottom of the third.
Bockholt started the inning with a leadoff double, Nucete drove him in with a single to cut the lead to 2-1 and Hamon tied the game with a run scoring single with another run scoring on an error by the left fielder.
Justin Ariki delivered the key blow in the inning with a two-out, two-run triple to give the Hogs a 5-2 lead. Chase Myrick then delivered an infield single to drive in the sixth run.
The Hogs then added three runs in the fourth and fifth innings to blow the game open.
Hamon blasted his team leading fifth home run of the season to drive in two runs in the fourth. It was just the second home run hit at Ryan Field in 16 home games this season.
Molina doubled to drive in two in the fifth and Nucete drove in the third run with a sacrifice fly.
