KINGSVILLE –Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas extended their winning streak to six games after sweeping a pair of one-run games from the Cameron Aggies, 2-1 and 4-3.
The Javelinas record now stands at 10-5 and the Aggies fell to 7-8.
In game one, Raul Trevino (Corpus Christi Incarnate Word) picked up the win for A&M-Kingsville with his second consecutive complete game effort.
He gave up six hits and one run while striking out eight and walking two. Trevino’s record now stands at 4-0.
Ryan Totte took the loss for the Aggies and fell to 0-3. He pitched 6 ½ innings giving up five hits and two runs. He also struck out three and walked three.
After shutting down the Aggies in the top of the first inning, Javelinas took the lead with one run off of Chase Myrick’s double driving in Justin Ariki from second.
The Aggies scored the equalizer in the fifth inning when Blake Hughes doubled to center for the batting in Mark Armstrong for the tying run.
The Javelinas scored the winning run in their last at bat in the bottom of the seventh.
Clay Bockholt (Tuloso-Midway) doubled down the left field line. The Javelinas then called a double steal which sent Bockholt running to third and then to home after the Aggie catcher threw the ball past third base.
In game two, Brandon Hevner got the win for A&M-Kingsville to even his record at 1-1. He pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs. He struck out seven and walked four.
Chris Delaney picked up his first save of the season for the Hogs.
Bevon Anderson fell to 2-1 with the loss for the Aggies. He allowed eight hits, four runs, struck out four and walked two in a complete game effort.
The Javelinas got it going early in the second game scoring four runs in the second inning which started off with a Diego Nucete walk and single up the middle by Javier Molina. The Hogs then hit four consecutive RBI singles. Taylor Everett singled to right field batting in Nucete and Trey Karlen followed up with his own single up the middle driving in Molina. Bockholt batted in Karlen and later scored on a Justin Ariki hit to right field to make it 4-0.
The Aggies retaliated in the sixth inning, scoring three runs to make it a one-run game, 4-3. Cameron started the inning with three straight hits with Josh Mathiesen bringing in B.J. Cole on a double for the first run. Later in the inning, the Aggies scored two runs on a throwing error that allowed Mathiesen and Blake Watson to score.
In the seventh inning, Blake Hughes lead off with a double down the right field line that went all the way to the outfield wall setting up the tying run for the Aggies. The Hogs then brought in Delaney to get the last three outs and save the win for the Javelinas.
The Javelinas will again host the Cameron Aggies for a doubleheader Saturday at noon.
