Livingston Pitches Gem, Hogs Sweep Tigers

KINGSVILLE – Josh Livingston (Corpus Christi Moody) pitched a nine-inning complete game as the Javelinas beat East Central 8-1 to sweep the four-game weekend series.

Livingston improved his record to 4-2, striking out nine while walking just two and allowing eight hits.

“He’s getting very consistent,” Stockton said. “He did an outstanding job.”

A&M-Kingsville out hit East Central 17-8 in the game with 11 batters getting a hit including six players with multi-hit games.

“I challenged the guys a little bit and they responded real well,” head coach Russell Stockton said. “We got some key hits and woke up the bats.”

The Javelinas’ record now stands at 16-10 while East Central fell to 6-19.

Stephen Spears remained winless on the year falling to 0-5 for the Tigers. In five innings of work he allowed 12 hits and seven runs. He also walked a batter and struck out a pair.

The Javelinas took a quick 1-0 lead in the first with a pair of two-out hits. Javier Molina knocked in a triple to the wall in right-center field before coming home on a Diego Nucete hit to the right side of the infield.

The Hogs loaded the bases in the third with no outs but only managed to add one run to their lead to make it 2-0 on a Taylor Everett sacrifice fly to right field that brought Clay Bockholt home.

East Central cut the lead in half, 2-1, in the top of the fourth with a Scott Nevland sac fly to right that scored Josh Walker.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Javelinas sent all nine batters to the plate and added five runs to their lead to make it 7-1. Everett got a hit to right field that scored Molina for the first run of the inning and Joe Hamon followed that up with a double to right that brought in Nucete. A Tiger error then allowed Everett and Hamon to score while also allowing Cy Williams to reach base. After stealing second, Williams came home on a Will Alexander double to left field for the fifth run of the inning.

Leo Montano led off the bottom of the seventh with his first career hit, a home run to left field to give A&M-Kingsville an 8-1 lead.

The Hogs will go on the road to Austin Wednesday for a meeting with the St. Edward’s Hilltoppers at 2 p.m.
