Trevino Improves To 5-1 With Complete Game Gem

   KINGSVILLE – The Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas put an end to their five-game losing streak with a win against the East Central Tigers, 4-2.

            The Javelinas’ record now stands at 13-10 while the Tigers fell to 6-16.

            Raul Trevino (Corpus Christi Incarnate Word ) improved to 5-1 going all nine innings for the Hogs. He gave up seven hits, two runs, walked two and struck out six. Trevino improved to 4-0 at home on the season with a 1.69 ERA at Nolan Ryan Field.

            Kyle Butler took the loss for East Central and saw his record fall to 2-3. He gave up three hits, three runs, walked two and struck out four in 4 2/3 innings of work.

            Javier Molina went three-for-four on the day for A&M-Kingsville and Chase Myrick went two-for-four with two RBI.

            The Tigers took the lead in their half of the fourth when Tyler Pybas led off with a double and took third on a sacrifice bunt by Riley Mann. A Josh Walker groundout to second allowed Pybas to come home for the 1-0 lead.

            The Javelinas came back and took the lead in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out rally. Justin Ariki took a bases loaded walk that allowed Molina to come home and tie it up at 1-1. Myrick then knocked in a hit up the middle that brought in Will Alexander and Clay Bockholt to give A&M-Kingsville a 3-1 lead.

            East Central cut the lead to 3-2 on another RBI groundout in the seventh. Derrick Romines grounded out to the shortstop allowing Jared Owen to cross home plate.

            The Hogs put the lead right back up to two, 4-2, in the bottom of the inning when a two-out error allowed Bockholt to score his second run of the game.

   Trevino stranded a pair of runners in both the eighth and ninth innings, ending the game with a ground out to short with runners at second and third.

   Trevino threw 112 pitches and stranded 10 Tiger runners on base.

            The Javelinas will host a doubleheader against East Central on Friday beginning at 3 p.m.
