Javelinas Fall To Midwestern State 58-44

Wichita Falls –   Dyana Bullinger scored 9 points and grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds, but Midwestern State outscored Texas A&M-Kingsville 31-10 over the final 12 minutes to win 58-44 at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The loss dropped the Javelinas to 8-17 and 3-9 in conference play while Midwestern State improved to 5-1 at home in league play, 12-12 overall and 5-7 in the LSC South Division.

Angela Trotter had 9 points and 9 rebounds and Jasmine June came off the bench to hit 3-of-4 shots and finish with 9 points.

The Javelinas led 34-27 with 12 minutes left in the game when Kayla Naylor hit a 3-point basket.

But the Javelinas offense went in the deep freeze and the Mustangs caught fire.

A&M-Kingsville shot just 31 percent from the field in the second half and went 1-of-11 from 3-point range while Midwestern State hit 48 percent of its shots in the second half and after missing all 7 3-point shot attempts in the first half, made 5-of-10 in the second half.

Midwestern State held the Javelinas’ leading scorer, Lana Toki, scoreless. The Javelinas also finished with 30 turnovers.

Despite turning the ball over 12 times and scoring just four points in the first six minutes and their leading scorer not scoring a point in the entire first half, Texas A&M-Kingsville led Midwestern State at the half 21-17.

The Javelinas closed the half on a 9-0 run to grab the halftime advantage.

A&M-Kingsville trailed 17-12 with 2:45 left in the game, but the Javelinas held the Mustangs scoreless the rest of the half and the rally was capped by a 3-point basket, the only 3-pointer of the half by either team, by Dyana Bullinger with 2 seconds left to give the Javelinas the 21-17 advantage.

Jasmine June, who had scored just seven points in her last six games, came off the bench and led the Javelinas in the first half with seven points.

A&M-Kingsville’s halfcourt zone defense caused Midwestern State all kinds of problems in the first 20 minutes as they made just 30 percent of their shots and missed all 7 3-point shot attempts.

Lana Toki attempted just one shot in the first half and was held scoreless.

The Javelinas shot 37 percent from the floor in the first half and turned the ball over 19 times, but hit 6-of-7 free throw attempts.
