Javelinas Battle Back, But Fall To Southeastern Oklahoma

   Kingsville – Trailing by 10 at halftime, the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelina women’s basketball team battled back to take a second half lead, but eventually fell to Southeastern Oklahoma 75-70 Saturday afternoon at Kleberg Bank Court in Kingsville.  Click here for stats.

   The loss dropped the Javelinas to 3-4 while Southeastern Oklahoma improved to 5-1.

   Kayla Naylor (Calallen) came off the bench to lead the Javelinas with 15 points, hitting 5-of-7 3-point shots.

   Naylor played 37 consecutive minutes after starting point guard Deanne Adger left the game after suffering an injury.

   Ali Scott had 10 points off the bench and starting forward LaKeisha Jones added 10 for the Javelinas.

   Kacey Russell came off the bench to lead Southeastern Oklahoma with 17 points.

   The Savage Storm led 43-32 just three minutes into the second half, but the Javelinas caught fire, hitting 10 of their first 16 shots to start the second half including four consecutive free throws and a trio of 3-point shots and had a 54-51 lead with 7:54 left in the game.

   Naylor hit a 3-point basket to give the Javelinas a 62-61 lead with 5:15 remaining, but it would be A&M-Kingsville last lead of the game.

   Southeastern scored the next seven points and the Javelinas got no closer than three points the rest of the way.

      Texas A&M-Kingsville led 26-19 with 6:12 left in the half, but the Savage Storm closed the first half on an 18-1 run to grab a 37-27 halftime advantage.

   A&M-Kingsville shot just 31 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes.
