Kingsville – Angela Trotter and Lana Toki combined for 29 points and 20 rebounds as the Texas A&M- Kingsville women’s basketball team earned their third straight win at Kleberg Bank Court with a 64-47 victory over Midwestern State in a Lone Star Conference South Division showdown.

Trotter and Toki each had double-doubles as Toki posted 19 points and 10 rebounds and Trotter added 10 points and 10 boards.
The Javelinas shot 65 percent from the floor in the first half and led 36-22 at intermission.
The closest the Mustangs (8-8, 1-3 LSC) came to catching the Javelinas (6-10, 1-2 LSC) in the second half was seven points when the Hogs were ahead 50-43. The Hogs outscored the Mustangs 14-4 in the final eight minutes to win going away.
“I think the difference was we just finally executed,” Head Coach Dina Kangas said. “We ran our offense really well and we scored on a high percentage of our shots. That’s the difference between getting lay-ups and making lay-ups. That was a point with us this week with how we struggled last week. We executed our sets really well.”
Freshman Felicia Soza came off the bench to score seven points and grab three rebounds in only 13 minutes for the Javelinas.
Texas A&M-Kingsville out-rebounded the Mustangs 42-20 and out-scored them 12-4 from the charity stripe.
“It would’ve been nice to play another home game this week but we can’t help the weather,” Kangas said. “I think the kids played really well and that’s all I ask.”
The Javelinas began with an early 4-2 advantage after Dyana Bullinger and Lana Toki opened the game with scores. The Mustangs fought back with Andrea Buben connecting on a three-pointer to give them their first lead of the game at 7-6.
The Javelinas came right back, taking a 15-13 advantage before outscoring the Mustangs 21-9 in the final 12-and-a-half minutes. Angela Trotter, Ali Scott, Toki and Reagan Sutton all had scores on the Javelina run. After nearly a six- minute stretch without a score Sonya Courtney finally knocked down a bucket for the Mustangs to cut the Javelina lead to 25-17. For the remainder of the half the Javelinas outscored Midwestern 11-5.
A&M- Kingsville went into halftime with a 36-22 lead after they made eight of the last 10 points in the half. Toki led all scorers with 10 points in the first half.
The Javelinas shot nearly twice as well as the Mustangs, making over 65 percent of their shots in the first half while the Mustangs connected for only 34.5 percent. The Hogs also had more than double Midwestern State’s points in the paint (20-8). The Mustangs were also out-rebounded 18-11 in the opening half.
The second half began with a multitude of turnovers before Sonya Courtney knocked down a shot to give the Mustangs the first two points of the half. Midwestern State climbed back into the game, scoring seven of the next 12 points to cut the lead to 41-31.
The Javelinas responded with Toki scoring the next five points to put them up 46-33.
The Javelinas next head to San Angelo to face the Angelo State Rambelles on Thursday at 6 p.m.
