Durant, Okla. – Two teams came into the game undefeated and only one could leave unbeaten and that team was Southeastern Oklahoma as they handed the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas an 80 to 62 loss Friday night.
The loss dropped the 24th ranked Javelinas to 7-1 while Southeastern Oklahoma improved to 7-0.
Reggie Love’s layup with 15:43 left in the game cut the Savage Storm to three, 42-39.
But Southeastern went on a game-changing 9-1 run to increase its lead to 51-40 with 12:02 left in the game.
The Javelinas would never get closer than seven points the rest of the game.
Rickey Huckaby led the Javelinas with 22 points while Remi Yusuf added 16.
Southeastern outscored the Javelinas by 15 points in the second half and shot 60 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes.
The Javelinas connected on just 5-of-23 3-point shot attempts and made just 43 percent of their shots overall.
The Javelinas trailed 33-30 at the half, but controlled the game for much of the first 20 minutes.
Texas A&M-Kingsville build its lead to as many as eight points, 24-16 with 8:50 left in the first half.
The Javelinas still led by seven, 30-23 with 3:35 left in the half, but the Savage Storm went on a 10-0 run to end the half.
Only five players scored in the first half for Texas A&M-Kingsville led by 11 points from Yusuf and eight from Huckaby.
The Javelinas made just 40 percent of their shots in the first half including 3-of-13 from 3-point range.
Texas A&M-Kingsville will return to action Monday, December 18th when the Javelinas host Incarnate Word.
