Harper put on a show for the Javelinas at the Bearcat Open as he set facility and meet records in the heptathlon en route to his second AQ mark. He started the competition with a second-place finish in the 60m dash at 7.07, followed up with the top spot in both the long jump at 7.04m (23-1.25) and the shot put at 13.51m (44-4), and closed the first day with a third-place finish in the high jump at 1.83m (6-0).
Day two featured three first-place performances for the Lorena, Texas, native as he clocked in at 8.33 in the 60m hurdles, added a 4.72m (15-5.75) mark in the pole vault and ended the heptathlon with a time of 2:46.41 in the 1000m run to bring his point total to 5561.
Harper’s total bested his previous personal record for the second-highest heptathlon total in program history, slotted him third on the Descending Order List in NCAA Division II and currently sits as the eighth-highest score all-time in Division II history. His efforts at the Bearcat Open granted him the Lone Star Conference’s Men’s Field Athlete of the Week award earlier on Wednesday.
