Carvajal led the women’s tennis team at the Contender CrossFit Open in Corpus Christi, Texas, over the weekend as she took second in both the Dolphin doubles draw and the Wave singles draw on the campus of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
The McAllen, Texas, native paired up with newcomer Maya Donkor (McLean, Va.) in the doubles portion of the open and cruised through tandems from UTRGV and UTSA in the first day to advance to the championship match of the draw.
Carvajal and Donkor took on Marina Rodriguez Garcia and Ai Noa Fabre from Louisiana on Sunday but fell at 6-4 to close their run in the doubles portion.
In the singles draw, Carvajal bested UTRGV’s Nethmi Waduge at 8-6 in the first round and overcame L. Sola from Lamar at 8-5 in the second round, but took second after dropping an 8-4 decision to TAMUCC’s Mariya Shumeika to end the weekend of play.
