Javelinas end Volleyball Classic with 3-2 weekend record, improve to 6-3 on year

Kingsville, Texas – The Javelinas finish Volleyball Classic with 3-2 record for the weekend

Texas A&M – Kingsville had a long hard-fought day to end the Javelina Volleyball Classic. The day saw both matches go all five sets with the Hogs splitting them and walking away with a 1-1 record on the day but securing a 3-2 record for the weekend. Both Matches saw unbelievable runs and comebacks as everyone crawled for any advantage they could get.

In the First match of the day the Javelinas took on the Montana St. Billings Yellow Jackets. The Yellow Jackets came out swinging taking the first set (25-23), then they watched as the Javelinas took control winning the next two sets, before claiming the fourth. The fifth started trading blows then when it was 4-3, the Hogs went on a 7-0 run to make it (10-4), which all but sealed the victory. With a final 4-0 run powered by great defense and stamped by an Allison Warden ace, The Javelinas finished on top.

This was a match that saw everything, but one performance by Cambelle Brammer was a top story as she attacked with fury as she racked up 25 kills on a .488 percentage for the match. Which ties her 6th in Javelina history and the first such match since 2017. She was joined by Alayna Guerrero as she nearly missed the record books with a 56-assist match.

The second match of the day was against Lone Star foe St. Mary's in a non-conference meeting. The Rattlers and Javelinas traded sets with the Rattlers claiming 1,3 and the Javelinas taking 2,4. It came down to a winner take all fifth as well. Where the Hogs fell behind and unfortunately were not able to recover the ground. In a game where the two teams were pretty even on the team comparison it came down to runs and the Rattlers had a few more.

The Javelinas fought till the very end coming back from (24-22) in the 4th set before ultimately not being able to string together the points needed in the fifth.

In a match that saw three Javelinas reach more than ten kills, five reach ten digs, and Kamryn Briggs put four aces on the board the cards were just not in favor. This Concluded the Javelinas weekend as they finished 3-2, bringing their overall season to 6-3 heading into the final weekend before conference play.

The Javelinas are looking ahead to the LSC Challenge as they are on the road and will take on Midwestern St. on Sep. 11th (6:00pm) and Oklahoma Christian on Sep. 12th (1:00pm), These matches will be non-Conference meetings.
