Kingsville, Texas – Javelinas split on Day 2 of Volleyball Classic
During day 2 of the Javelina Volleyball Classic Texas A&M – Kingsville finishes 1-1 on the day after dropping second match of the year to Minnesota St. Moorhead in four sets. The Javelinas fought the entire way going down Scoring 19 in three of the four sets. Their effort was punctuated with three Javs having nine or more kills in the match. They ended the day by coming from behind and beating Findlay in five sets.
In the first match of day against MSUM Natalee rush led the team with 11 kills as
Alayna Guerrero had 30 assists and
Tayae-Renae Garcia added 21 digs to her season total. The story of the match came from blocks and aces as the Dragons out blocked the Javelinas 9 to 3 and had 7 aces to 3. The Javelinas back to regroup after the match and got ready to come back later during the day to take on Findlay.
Against Findlay the Javelinas took the first set in dramatic fashion with a 26-24 score including a 6-point run to come back from 23-18. The Oilers from Findlay then proceeded to take the 2
nd and 3
rd sets with scores of (25-23, and 25-19), but being down 2-1 lit a fire for the Javelinas. They stormed out to a 10-4 lead to start the 4
th set behind a total team effort. The Javelinas never let go of the lead coming out on top (25-21). Coming down to a winner take all 5
th set both teams went on early 3-point runs, before trading blows then, the Javelinas took complete command of the game going from behind (5-7) to leading (12-7).
Cambelle Brammer delivered the last three kills to give Texas A&M – Kingsville the 3-2 victory of the Oilers.
In a match that saw four Javelinas with 10 0r more kills and five other Javelinas registering over 15 digs with
Tayae-Renae Garcia leading with 26 in total.
Alexiah Thompson and
Cambelle Brammer, the offensive onslaught with 15 and 16 kills, respectively. This match gave the Javelinas their fifth on the year.
Texas A&M – Kingsville will follow this performance tomorrow with matches against Montana St. Billings at 10:00 am and then conclude their Javelina Volleyball Classic weekend with against St. Mary's in a non-conference bout at 2:30 pm.
