Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville looks for a bounce-back weekend as they travel to the great lakes state for a matchup against Saginaw Valley State University on Saturday from Wickes Memorial Stadium.

The Javelinas (0-1. 0-0 LSC) are looking to put last week's performance behind them after dropping the season opener to No. 8 Northwest Missouri State in Kingsville. Now they will travel up north to take on a Cardinal (1-0, 0-0 GLIAC) team who is hoping to build positive momentum after taking down McKindree in their season opener.

Saturday will be the first time since the 2021 season that the Javelinas will travel up to University Center, Michigan, to take on the Cardinals and the second time in program history that the Javelinas play at Wickes Memorial Stadium. Last time out against the Cardinals, the Javelinas dropped a 13-9 contest after two late field goals gave Saginaw Valley the win.

Offensively, the Javelinas will look to clean up mistakes that sunk them in the season opener. Quarterback Mills Dawson did have some good moments, including a 48-yard deep bomb to King Johnson for his first reception of his career and multiple fourth-down conversions early, but it was not enough to overcome the Bearcats. Transfer receiver Nate Barnett also had a decent showing, leading the team with four receptions.

On the other side of the ball, the Javelinas will take on an incredibly balanced Cardinal offense who posted over 500 yards of total offense in their season opener. Senior defensive back Jeremiah Conaway and junior linebacker Julian Payne both had quality games last week, leading the Javelinas with eight and ten tackles respectively and each posting a pass breakup. The defense was also quite disruptive in last week's contest, posting six TFL's.

Quick Hitters:

- The Javelinas extended their sack streak to 12 consecutive games with at least one sack after notching a pair of sacks against the Bearcats thanks to Jacari Howard and Travis Bielefeld.

- Redshirt-freshman Kadarious Coleman notched his first career interception last week, setting up the Javelinas for their only points of the contest.

- The Javelinas' lone win against the Cardinals came during the 1980 football season, in which Texas A&M-Kingsville blanked Saginaw Valley 52-0 in Kingsville.

- Saginaw Valley enters a new era with first-year head coach Michael Engle. Engle became the eighth coach of SVSU Football when he was hired in January. Engle spent four years at UIndy before he joined the Cardinals.

- Despite not returning a starter, the Cardinal offensive line contributed to 249 team rushing yards and gave up just one sack.

Kickoff for Saturday's action is set for 5:00 CST, fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the action at JavelinaFB on X
