Kingsville — Texas A&M-Kingsville dropped the series finale to West Texas A&M 3-2 in ten innings on Senior Day Sunday at Nolan Ryan Field, but the Javelinas still took the series three games to one.
Before the first pitch, the Javelinas paused to honor their 16 graduating seniors in a pregame ceremony, celebrating each player alongside their family, friends and fans in what was an emotional sendoff at Nolan Ryan Field. The Javelinas (25-25, 25-25 LSC) then fought hard through ten innings before a walk-off home run in the tenth ended their hopes of a series sweep, capping an otherwise successful weekend at home.
TAMUK jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning, as Sergio Galvan Jr. reached on a throwing error that scored both Easton Hewitt and Cian Garza to give the Javelinas an early cushion. West Texas A&M chipped away, however, scoring one in the third on an RBI single and tying the game at two apiece in the sixth on a wild pitch.
The game remained deadlocked through nine innings, sending it to extras. In the tenth, Anthony Picciano ended it with a solo home run to deep left field to give the Buffs the 3-2 victory and deny the Javelinas the sweep on Senior Day.
Despite the loss, the Javelinas can take plenty of positives from the weekend, having outscored West Texas A&M 20-10 across the four-game series. Garrett Nail took the loss on the mound, falling to 5-6 on the season.
The Javelinas will now turn their attention to the LSC Tournament next week. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the action on FloCollege or follow it on JavelinaBSB on X.
