Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville dropped the series to UT Dallas via a 3-6 decision Sunday from Nolan Ryan Field.
The Javelinas (22-20, 22-20 LSC) had their chances, as they would get two aboard with a
Joshua Prado single and a
Nick Reyes walk with two outs to get the necessary three runs to tie the game. However, both Prado and Reyes would get stranded on the base paths as the Comets (30-12, 30-12 LSC) earned the series win.
True Freshman
Zachary Wright got his eighth start of the season, and while he would settle into the game nicely, UT Dallas were able to score the first four runs of the contest off of Wright.
James Placke would check into the game in relief of Wright, tossing 1.1 innings of shutout baseball before he was relieved by
Sawyer Smith and
Ruben Rendon III.
Redshirt-Freshman
Jake Gann got his first career start for the Javelinas out in left field and he provided incredible offense for the Javelinas. An RBI-double in the third scored the first inning of the game for the Javelinas, bringing
Damian Carreon home. Gann brought in another Javelina in the seventh with an RBI-single. Reyes then put a crooked number up on the board for the Javelinas with an SAC-Fly RBI.
Smith wouldn't get out of the following inning cleanly, as the Comets got an all-important insurance run across the board with a solo-home run across the board. Both the Hogs and Comets then could not get another run across home plate as the game would end in a 6-3 decision.
Texas A&M-Kingsville heads to the capital city of Texas for a four-game series against St. Edwards next week. Fans of the Javelians can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the action at JavelinBSB on X.
