Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville dropped the inaugural matchup against UT Dallas, 11-1, Friday from Nolan Ryan Field.
After inclement weather threatened to push the game back, the Javelinas (21-18, 21-18 LSC) threatened the Comets (28-11, 28-11 LSC) in the early innings but eventually could not keep up with the first-year members of the Lone Star Conference as they dropped the series opener.
Junior right-handed pitcher
Garrett Nail would get the start for the Javelinas, tossing five complete innings with eight strikeouts to boost his lead in the conference to 83 K's. It would not be a spotless outing for Nail however, as the Comets wrestled control of the game against Nail in the sixth inning with five runs coming across home plate.
The Javelinas had their chances in this contest to be the ones to gain control, as a double from
Sergio Galvan Jr. and a single from
Joshua Prado put runners on the corners with no outs.
Landon Salinas would wear one on the shoulder to load the bases with no outs, however the Javelinas could not get any runners across the board, as a strikeout and a double-play ended any potential runs coming on the board for the Hogs.
Three Javelinas would knock extra-base hits today with Galvan's aforementioned double among them. These included the lone-RBI of the Game for the Javelians with the bat Salinas that scored Duff.
Nathan Gamez also registered a double in his first start at first base, but it was too-little, too-late as the Javelians dropped the first game of the series.
Texas A&M-Kingsville will take on UT Dallas in double-header action Saturday from Nolan Ryan Field beginning at 2:00 pm. Fans of the Javelians can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the action at JavelinaBSB on X.
