Belton, TX — The Javelinas had another strong showing on the road, going 3-0 at the UMHBeach Spring Break Bash in Belton, Texas after the scheduled finale against host University of Mary Hardin-Baylor was canceled due to weather. The weekend pushed TAMUK's record to 9-2 on the season.
Day 1
vs. Central Arkansas
TAMUK opened the tournament with a 4-1 victory over Central Arkansas. Kalani Vasquez and Laura Betsa got things started in the first wave at Pair 2, dropping the first set before rallying to close it out in three sets. With the match tied heading into the second wave, Rylan Pollard and Liana Huesca set the tone at Pair 1, taking down their opponents in two sets. Emma Daugherty and Kastyn Hoffman kept the momentum going at Pair 3, winning a tight three-set battle. Clara Presmanes-Garate and Kamryn Briggs closed out the win at Pair 5 in another competitive three-set battle.
vs. Sam Houston State
The Javelinas followed up with their most dominant performance of the weekend, sweeping Sam Houston State 5-0 to extend their winning streak against the Bearkats to three matches on the season. Vasquez and Betsa got things going once again at Pair 2 with a three-set victory. Elizabeth Williams and Kate Wozniak delivered a clean sweep at Pair 4. In the second wave, Pollard and Huesca gutted out a three-set win at Pair 1. Daugherty and Hoffman took care of business at Pair 3 in straight sets. Presmanes-Garate and Briggs capped the sweep at Pair 5, winning convincingly in two sets.
Day 2
vs. Tarleton State
TAMUK closed out the weekend with a 4-1 victory over Tarleton State. Vasquez and Betsa got things started with a three-set win. In the second wave, Pollard and Huesca secured the win at Pair 1. Daugherty and Hoffman followed with another three-set battle at Pair 3, rallying to close it out. Presmanes-Garate and Briggs sealed the victory for the Javelinas to close out a successful weekend in Belton.
The weekend also featured a historic individual milestone, as Pollard broke the program record for career wins at flight one, recording her 43rd career victory to etch her name in Javelina beach volleyball history.
The match against UMHB was canceled due to weather, but the Javelinas walk away from Belton with a 3-0 weekend and plenty of momentum heading into the next stretch of the season.
Up next, TAMUK heads to New Orleans, Louisiana for the Bayou Beach Duals at White Sands Volleyball Courts on March 13-14, taking on Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls on Friday before facing Central Arkansas and UTEP on Saturday.
