Kingsville - With the outdoor season right around the corner, the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's and men's track and field teams still have one meet left on their indoor schedules - the 2026 DII Indoor T&F Championships in Virginia Beach, VA, which the Javelinas will send eight athletes, five men and three women, to compete in.
"I'm really happy for our national qualifiers," Head Coach
Ryan Dall said. "It's very difficult to qualify for indoor nationals, only taking the top 18 per event and top 12 relays. I feel everyone is capable of scoring at the national meet, so I'm excited to get up there and see what we can do."
Sophomore sprinter
Oneika Brissett led the teams' national qualifiers, earning a spot in Virginia in both the women's 200m and 400m, which will be the third Nationals trip for her. Already a two-time All-American as a member of last year's record-setting 4x400m relay team, Brissett will be looking to earn that title for the first time as an individual.
After a stellar performance as last weekend's Lone Star Conference Indoor Championships in Albuquerque that both earned them the meet's gold medal, and broke the school's record, the men's 4x400m relay team of
Joseph Mouaha,
Tony Benitez,
Darius Bouakel, and
Michael Samihamba will be heading to Nationals as well. Benitez and Samihama are both former All-Americans, as the crew will bring Mouaha and Bouakel into the fold to follow up a third-place finish as last year's Outdoor National Championships.
Senior high jumper
Madison Ramos will also be headed back to Indoor Nationals, where she broke the school record and finished as a First Team All-American last year. She has been on a tear this season, breaking her own record again with a jump of 1.76m, tying her for the seventh-highest clearance in the nation this season.
The final two national qualifiers for the Hogs are first-year Javelinas, who have made an immediate impact in Kingsville. Junior men's sprinter
DaTavus Pope will be heading to Virginia on the strength of a 6.71 in the 60m, the second-fastest time run in school history (fastest since '04).Â
Junior women's pole vaulter
Kenzie Kurdys rounds out TAMUK's qualifiers. She cleared a bar set at 3.92m at the LSC Indoor Championships last weekend, bringing home the gold for Kingsville and breaking TAMUK's school record in the event.Â
The Nationals crew will be competing in Virginia across two days next weekend (March 13-14). For the rest of the teams, the outdoor season will begin on Friday in Kingsville, where the Javelinas will be hosting Angelo St. in the second annual Blue and Gold Battle duel meet.
