San Angelo, Tx - Texas A&M-Kingsville dropped its series to Angelo State on Sunday in a 10-16 shootout from Foster Field.
The Javelinas (19-15, 19-15 LSC) and Rams (23-11, 23-11 LSC) combined for 26 runs on 24 hits on get-away. Texas A&M-Kingsville however plated a majority of those runs late in the contest, as Angelo State had built a sizable lead through the early innings.
It would, however, be the Javelinas who would strike first with a two-run second inning thanks to RBIs from
Cade Minus and
Easton Hewitt. The Rams responded in kind however, scoring five runs in the bottom of the second and four runs the very next inning to create another big lead from themselves.
Minus would try to begin a rally for the Hogs in the top of the fourth, sending a ball deep into center field for his second home run of the season to get the Hogs back in it.
Joshua Prado added to the scoring, bringing in another run with an RBI single to make it a 4-9 ballgame.
The teams would then go back and forth trading runs with each other for the next two innings, with Angelo never letting the Javelinas close the distance on them.
Travis Vlasek would be the one to spark a late rally in the eighth, blasting a ball into left-center field with two aboard to make a comeback feasible.
Jaden Cavazos would follow that up with a walk, but would not get across as the inning would end with the Javelinas down 10-16.
A glimmer of hope broke through for the Javelinas in the top of the ninth, as two would immediately get aboard with no outs. The hope would get dashed very quickly however, as a double-play all but ended the chances of a late rally for the Javelinas as they would drop the series to Angelo State.
Texas A&M-Kingsville returns to Nolan Ryan Field for a four-game series against Texas A&M-International beginning on Thursday. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the action at Javelina BSB on X.
