Salinas hits game-winning single as Hogs win an All-Time Classic against Rams

San Angelo, Tx - Landon Salinas sent a base hit into right field to score the game-winning run as Texas A&M-Kingsville took down Angelo State, 6-5, in 14 innings at Foster Field.

After not scoring for the previous five innings, the Javelinas (19-12, 19-12 LSC) would use a timely two-out base hit from Joshua Prado that got him in scoring position thanks to a Ram (20-11, 20-11 LSC) error. Salinas would then send a grounder through the right-side gap in the infield to break the scoring drought and put the Javelinas on top.

Extra inning heroics were not isolated to just Salinas however, as redshirt-sophomore Tyler Schumann tossed his finest game as a Javelina. The reigning freshman of the year tossed 6.1 innings while allowing no hits and no runs en route to earning his fourth win of the season. Schumann hurled nine strikeouts as well, increasing his total to 48 on the season.

The late-game dramatics began in the eighth, as the Javelinas bolstered a slight lead after Nick Reyes notched his third RBI of the game thanks to a double into left field that gave the Javelinas a two-run lead. Angelo however showed their discipline in the batter's box, walking in a pair of runners after loading the bases via walks to even up the contest at five apiece.

The eighth inning would shut down another great outing from junior righty Garrett Nail, who fanned another eight batters to further build on his lead in strikeouts with 65. Brian Buchanan would get called to start the contest, and while he did surrender the first two runs of the game, he would keep the Rams off the scoreboard for two more innings while racking up four strikeouts.

Reyes would get timely RBI's in the second and fourth inning to even up the contest at two apiece after the two-run first innings by the Rams. Cade Minus then gave the Javelinas the lead after Easton Hewitt kicked off the top of the fifth with a lead-off double down the rightfield line. Travis Vlasek then built the Javelinas lead to two in the sixth, knocking a base hit into center field to score Prado and make it a 4-2 ball game.

Prado finished with a team-high three hits and three runs scored while Salians, Vlasek and Hewitt each registered multiple hits as well. Salinas would also swipe a couple of bags, reach via a walk and get plucked to bring his total to four opportunities on the base paths.

Texas A&M-Kingsville looks to keep the good times rolling in double-header action on Saturday beginning at 2:00 pm. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the action at JavelinaBSB on X.
