Kingsville - After yet another stellar weekend for the Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team, senior RHP
Andrea Martinez earned the first Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week award of her career.
Martinez pitched in both sides of Kingsville's doubleheader sweep of TAMIU, throwing a one-run, complete-game win in game one, before entering game two in relief and picking up the first save of her career. In doing so, she became the first pitcher in the conference this year to collect a CG win and a save in the same doubleheader.
"We needed someone to step up and be that person and she answered the bell and has knocked it out of the park," Head Coach
Orlando Salinas said. "I can't be more proud, she's from Bishop High School, 15 minutes down the road, it's really cool to see a South Texas girl get pitcher of the week and be from right here in Bishop, and have the best year of her career in her senior year."
Martinez has been a work horse for Kingsville, appearing in eight straight games for TAMUK, the last four of which have featured a complete game win in game one of a DH followed by a scoreless run of relief work in game two.Â
Martinez and the Javelinas will be returning home this weekend to take on the No.10 Angelo St. Rambelles at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
